Abstract
The Etna
Speleological Center while exploring the "Pozzi dell'Eruzione del 1923"
volcanic cave on Mt. Etna found several different speleothems.
Preliminar analyses
shown that inside this cave at least 4 different cave minerals exist,
one of which completely new for the cave environent.
Portlandite is this
new cave mineral, which is very rare also in other environments: in
fact, at present, it has been found only in three other places in the
world.
In the present paper,
after a short description of the cave and of the other chemical
deposits, the morphological and mineralogical features of the just
discovered Portlandite are reported.
